Racing

Starting at the beginning of May racing takes place each Wednesday and points are cumulated over three series through the summer, each of 6 races(with one discard). Races start from the club line with the Flying Fifteens away at 7.15pm and the Dinghies, Pipers and Keelboats each 5 minutes behind respectively. Starts are notified by a system of lights and courses identified by a number which corresponds to a course shown in the members handbook.

One off events usually take place on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and starting times are shown in the members handbook.  In addition the Pipers and Flying Fifteens have their own open regattas in the spring.

The club hosts a regatta on the second  weekend of September - a great season finale.

Racing Fleets

Piper OD class

Look out over the Holy Loch on a Wednesday night in the summer and you will see a fleet of a dozen Pipers racing. These graceful 24 foot 3 man open keelboats are of a local design, resembling a scaled down 1950's 12 metre. Their good looks combine nicely with robust construction and a racing heritage. Close racing is assured !

Flying Fifteen

The legendary Uffa Fox designed the Flying Fifteen in 1947.Expect to see 12 or more of these nippy 2 man planning keel boats at the start line each week with their numbers greatly swelled with visitors at GTI Polaris Regatta. The fleet currently comprises an even mix of Silver and Classic 15's with the slightly faster silvers racing directly with the classics but using Portsmouth yardstick handicap. Competitive and fun. Find out more about Flying Fifteens here.  The more modern 'open' class (sail number 3400+) are very welcome at the september Regatta. The club is keen to encourage  Classic and Silver  boats fo join the fleet and race at club events.

Handicap Keelboats

A white sail class (no spinnakers)has grown over the last couple of years giving keelboats giving the bigger boats a good excuse for a wee sail on a Wednesday night .

Dinghies

A selection of single and double handed dinghies battle it out in the loch using the Portsmouth Yardstick handicap system. If yours has a PY number come and race. Youth interest is mostly catered for in the Toppers which have their own Thursday night series.
